How to Utilize Ceramic Weld Backing to Maximize Quality and Minimize Rework
Leave a CommentAt Gullco International, we’re committed to improving weld automation equipment by creating innovative solutions that address the welding industry’s rapidly evolving needs. Our products are created to endure demanding field environments while increasing productivity and decreasing defect rates. One of our most popular products is our KATBAK® ceramic weld backing. In this eBook, we’ll discuss what ceramic weld backing is and how it can be used to maximize weld quality and minimize rework.
When welding joints in applications like structural steel fabrication, pressure vessel manufacturing, or pipeline seam welding, it’s essential to ensure the weld fully penetrates the entire joint. Without full weld penetration, the joint will not be durable enough to endure the demands of its end-use application.
To accomplish this, added support is often required along the back side of the weld. The term “weld backing” refers to a material that is applied to the root of a weld joint for support. It also acts as a shield from the molten metal used to create the weld.
